Stakeholder consultations identified water quality as the top issue
for Sturgeon Bay, a Bay located along the east shore of Georgian Bay at
Pointe au Baril. The Bay’s water quality has been progressively
deteriorating. Massive algal blooms are occurring. Phosphorous concentrations
up to 34 ug/L have been measured and water clarity has been reduced to
about 0.6 m in the worst areas. Dr. Bradford lead the development of a
Plan which identified land use planning measures, private stewardship
actions, and in-lake restoration measures.
