Research Intrests
  • impact of agriculture on air quality
    • primarily concerned with size fractionated particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5 and secondary inorganic aerosols), ammonia, and greenhouse gases
    • agricultural sources studied include: composting, incineration, land application of manure, manure storage facilities, poultry barns (layer, broiler, and turkey), dairy barns
  • mercury transport between the atmosphere and various terrestrial surfaces
    • concerned with different forms of mercury including: gaseous elemental mercury (GEM), reactive gaseous mercury (RGM) and particulate-bound mercury (HgP)
    • influence of environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, radiation, etc) on the flux of GEM between terrestrial surfaces and the atmosphere
    • influence of sub-zero temperatures on the flux of Hg from soils under lab conditions
  • air quality modeling
    • dispersion models (AERMOD, CALPUFF)
    • emission inventory models (pesticides, ammonia)
    • regulatory compliance issues
  • industrial collaborations
    • SmogStop noise barrier to reduce NO and NO2 emissions along highways
    • testing HVAC filters composed of compostable fibres
